The Journey

The seeds of Atut Bandhan started germinating in April 2022 when Shri Pritish Basa desired to provide financial assistance to a meritorious but needy student studying in any Govt. Medical Colleges of Odisha from 15th May 2022 which was the second death anniversary of his eldest son Mit. He requested Dr. Biswajit Mishra(Paediatrician and Professor at Hi-Tech Medical College, Bhubaneswar) and Dr. Saroj Das Majumdar, Professor at AIIMS Bhubaneswar to identify a student who satisfied the above criteria. Both the doctors swung into action and within a fortnight, Dr. Jami Sagar Prusti Professor & HOD, Anatomy Dept. , MKCG Medical College Berhampur recommended eight students of MKCG Medical College for the said purpose. As it was extremely difficult to choose one out of eight, both Shri Pritish Basa and Dr. Biswajit Mishra decided to have direct interaction with the students in Berhampur.

In the meantime, Dr. Majumdar informed that his wife Dr. Subhalaxmi Routray, a Professor at SCB Medical College, Cuttack, had identified a needy girl student who fitted the above criteria. As the girl student fulfilled the conditions laid down for selection, Shri Basa decided to provide necessary financial assistance to her.

But having come halfway in respect of MKCG college students, both Shri. Basa and Dr. Mishra proceeded to Berhampur as scheduled earlier to interact with the shortlisted students. In retrospect, this decision proved to be a GAME CHANGER. On meeting the students, they were completely at bay knowing not whom to select and whom to reject. During their interaction, one of the students requested that his friend should be selected over his own claims as the need of his friend was more than his own.

This extraordinary sense of sacrifice on the part of a youngster who himself needed support completely changed the atmosphere. Dr. Biswajit Mishra announced that he would support two students while at the same time, Shri Basa adopted one more student over and above the one selected earlier. Both of them also committed to the remaining five students that sponsors would be arranged for them within a period of one month. At this point, the founder Shri Basa set a very challenging and ambitious target of providing financial assistance to at least fifty medical students by 15th May 2023, the 3rd Death Anniversary of his son Mit.
