Atut Bandhan, a philanthropic initiative, was started on 15th May 2022 with the aim of building relationships for life with meritorious but needy students of Government Medical colleges through financial assistance by willing sponsors. The initiative was started by a retired banker Shri Pritish Basa. He was supported by three doctors; namely, Dr. Saroj Das Majumdar (Professor AIIMS, Bhubaneswar), Dr. Biswajit Mishra, (Paediatrician and Professor Hi-Tech Medical College, Bhubaneswar), and Dr. Jami Sagar Prusty (Professor & Head of the Dept. of Anatomy, MKCG Medical College, Berhampur) to take the initiative forward. The modest target was to assist 50 students within a year of its launch. The magic number of fifty students assisted was achieved on 18th February ‘2023 (Maha Shivaratri Day), about three months before the targeted date.
Atut Bandhan has made great strides so far by assisting fifty-two students Govt. Medical colleges. The Sponsors include a large no of individuals, both from the country and abroad, and also a few Corporates. The unique feature of this initiative is that it does not have any financial dealings nor it accept any funds from the sponsors. The sponsors send money directly to the account of students and have regular interaction with them.
